Saltcoats' Crown Inn wins UK 'Patriotic Pub' award

  • The Crown has been named as one of the UK's 'Most Patriotic Pubs'

Congratulations to the Crown Pub - after the popular Saltcoats bar was named one of the 'UK's Most Patriotic Pubs'.

The Crown has been named as just ten winners across the UK, and The Crown highlighted their crudentials including the Isle of Cumbrae Pipe Band regularly visiting both as punters and performers, ceilidh and folk nights and the Help the Heroes charity football match between the Crown's own team and customers.

The Crown pub, which welcomes local soldiers as regulars and has been fundraising for Help the Heroes, decided to enter the pub into the Sun newspaper's 'Patriotic Pub' competition to mark the second annual Armed Forces Day.

Hi, yes I remember the Crown Inn, had a few pints in there myself, it has been awhile though, in fact 4 years since I was in Saltcoats last, it seems funny after being in Canada 57 years when one goes back to the old home town after living there for 21 years places and streets seem a lot smaller than one remembers. Just sitting on the summer seat on Dockhead street watching people going by and not knowing a soul gives one a feeling of loss, time and tide waits for no man, So I had a pint in the Crown Inn and then one in the Windy Ha, but still not a familar face in sight, all the old buddies moved away or passed away, except Bert McMahon who lives in Adrossan near the South Beach Railway station. So it is always good to get back to Vancouver to all those familar places and faces.
